A little hitchhiking.

Comic:I've lost the storyline. No really, these next few comics are more of gag comics than story progressing comics. I've been lazy recently. Well, either that or busy because of finals week.
Life: Saw Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy twice yesterday. Once by myself and once with a crazy female friend of mine. I liked it. I'm sure there will be those who will complain that it wasn't accurate enough, or whine about differences. To them I will echo the words of Marvin "How depressing". Honestly if Douglas Adams was alive today I'm guessing he'd watch it and say "Close enough".

Comic: Yes, I have a thing for hats. Hats almost take on a metaphysical ideal for me, so it shouldn't be a surprise that Smick's hat might be somewhat sentient. It also sets up an excellent joke reuse point. You'll see what I mean tommorrow if tommorrow's comic is the one I think it is. Don't look at me like that, I just load them into the queue and forget about them.
Life: Have I mentioned that I use Google as a spellchecker. Useful, especially with a browser that can do tabs like FireFox. I recently learned that Google has a calculator built into it. Type and expression in and it evaluates it using standard syntax. In school life I have an excellent quote from a professor: "It's like practicing with a nail gun. I wonder if it hurts if I shoot myself in the foot." This was part of his argument about not using break and continue statements. I'm going to see Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy later today. More on that when I get back.

Nothing much

Comic: Yeah, self explainitory.
Life: Dump week begins. You know, the week where all the professors realize that the semseter is coming to an end and decide to give you one last assignment, assuming of course that no other professor is going to do the same thing. Voila! Lots of homework right before final! Sucky!

Life: Ha Ha, music has been found. I lost some music a little while ago and then forgot I was looking for it. Having remembered to look for it today, I found it. Now time to practice!

Sound Travels

Comic: I like this one. Sometimes magical occurances aren't so magical after all. Smick's threat is also a most excellent threat.
Life: Low ceilings bite, especially when you have a large vertical like I do. Celebratory jumps hurt. In other news, nothing really happened yesterday except for homework, and finding out that Microsoft is the worst company ever. Not that I didn't know that, but it was succinctly reenforced yesterday. And the movie was Jackie Chan's Project A.
Maybe more later.

The stars are out tonight.

Comic: It's nighttime, just look out the window. Group shoots like the last panel can be annoying. Deciding who gets to be in front takes time, and usually comes down to who's the shortest. Then I have to stack them up in reverse order. Forget the order and I might have to start over. Oh woe is me, my life is so difficult.
Life:A guy on the bus laughed at my outfit for almost 15 minutes last night. New Record! In other news yesterday was a great day for keeping other people amused. While I hung out between classes I kept a whole two people amused when they weren't talking on the phone.

Also bonus points for whoever guesses correctly what movie the title of the blog post refers to.

Comic: Smick's motherly role continues. At least he's not tucking them in. That would be an art nightmare.
Life: I have rediscovered crack cocaine aka Turn Based Strategy games. They have this wonderfully annoying property called the turn. Each time you finish a turn, you feel compelled to take another one and another one, until it's three hours later and you only meant to play for one. On the plus side, I conquered the world last night in Civilization II. Yes I have a problem, but it's just a little one.

Hat Trip

Life: Those of you who know me, know that I like to wear hats. Specifically outrageous hats. Over this weekend I have received many varied comments refering to my hats and colorful clothes as I travelled around. Here's most of them.

Cool hat, dude (grade schoolers at the Capitol)

I really admire the way you dress.

Nice hat.

Are you happy today? (my hat had smiley faces on it)

Is there a festival going on?

Are you high?

And that's just this weekend.(I included Friday in the weekend)

Your Mother

Comic: The trouble with being the only responisble one is illustrated in today's comic. It is odd only having a week of buffer. When I started I had a month, but it gradually diminished. The comic felt really far away and commenting was like reading a history book. Now it feels like the comic is ever in danger of catching up to me.
Life: I didn't have quite the art day I thought I was going to have but I did have a nice little adventure. For all the pictures, click on them for a (much) larger version.
Here's a funny bridge, my first stop on the trip. Below it are a bunch of train tracks. I would have taken a picture of them, but I didn't have the camera working quite yet. Also it was really windy out at the middle of the bridge and the camera wouldn't stay still.

After that I walked over to a nearby college campus and found this. Forgot to turn off the flash.

The door was open so I took a look inside.

Nice place, but with a table that has a floor pattern on it you just know someone is going to do this.

Moving on I found a building that had a nice steeple. I tried to get to it but got stuck on the third floor. I found this room instead.

I'm up on a balcony. A rather unsturdy one that creaked when I moved around. I left. Then I came upon this church. Take a guess about the denomination.

Looks Catholic right? Nope it's Methodist. This next picture will basically tell you where I live.

The statues are a lot of fun, but some sourable people are insulted by them because they think the drunken bum Fitzgerald was better than Schultz. Idiots.

I know, you can turn your head sideways just this once. It's a little ramp connecting the walking path of this park with the playground stuff that's in the sand. Useful for people in wheelchairs and parents who really don't want to get sand in their shoes ;)

My next stop was further away. I went down to the state Capitol and looked around. While I was there I sat through a vote on a spending bill in the state house. It had something to do with funding veterans comp and the national guard. It passed. The picture is a lovely star on the floor in the main entrance.

Apparently there's a large asian population living in the area between my house and the Capitol. At least that's what I assume from the large number of korean and vietnamese restaurants, grocery stores, and video rentals on the road to the Capitol.

After a brief trip to the library. I took a picture of this. If this is our monument, no wonder we don't get any respect here.

That's my day. I had fun. Hope you did too.

22 April 2005

Comic: I'm trying to include passage of time in the comic now. You may see better structured days now with relavant amounts of sunlight coming in the windows. It's quite true when authors talk about stories writing themselves. Smick is quite different from his original self in my hand drawn comic. He used to be more of an accomplice and a foil to Nob's sillines. This time he's turning out to be more of an authority figure. I think he works better this way.
Life: I'm just having one of those "hate the world because I can't get a girlfriend days" even though it's probably my fault. I think I'll try to have an art day if I get my homework done in a reasonable amount of time.

21 April 2005

Comic: Today's comic is pure Nob. Just having fun, irregardless of who's around to have fun with him.

Life: I fell up the stairs last night and bonked up my right knee. It swelled up, but it's mostly better now. Though I do run oddly because I'm favoring my left leg a bit.

More later when I actually have something to say.

A start

What does it look like? It's my new blog for comics and life.
